fall detection and prevention
This consumer products company is a provider of fall detection and prevention devices, including smart lamps and lighting fixtures. The combination of built-in 24/7 motion sensors and innovative fall detection camera technology immediately recognizes when a person falls, asks if they are alright and if not, notifies their family or caregivers. If necessary, the smart lamp can even unlock the smart lock on the victim’s front door, so help can be provided without additional delay.
These devices are intended primarily for use with elderly persons living independently at home or at assisted living facilities and hospitals.
voice capture & recognition integration
A key goal in developing the 2nd generation smart lamp included improving the voice and audio performance. To achieve superior voice recognition performance at a greater distance and in challenging environments that were often loud with competing noise sources, they selected a 3rd-party voice processor. Surfaceink’s audio and voice engineering team was chosen to help integrate and validate this advanced voice technology.
Key Program Objectives
- Review CAD files and recommend microphone selection, placement, and technique for porting, attachment, sealing, and dust protection based on the voice processor algorithms and use cases
- Perform acoustic simulation of mic capture paths to improve voice capture quality
- Advise engineering resources regarding the selection and integration of all audio-related components and playback chain, including any data convertors, DSPs, I2S or USB interfaces, amplifiers, and AEC reference paths
- Improve tuning parameters
- Review CAD files, use cases, and audio performance goals and recommend speaker transducer(s), their mounting, sealing, and placement, as well as the amplifier.
- Provide consultation on acoustic chamber design and materials.
- Perform acoustic simulation of playback components and path and recommend design changes for optimization.
- Provide technical support for any audio and voice-related F/W implementation
