The first wearable for your mind – smart ring helps users discover a deeper understanding of their mental and physical health by measuring in real-time focus, calm, stress, sleep patterns, and more.
Surfaceink worked side-by-side with our client from early-stage development and prototypes through manufacturing. Because of the size and functionality of the ring, we had to overcome multiple complex challenges to help bring this product to market.
Our engineering teams helped build and choose sensors for PoC proto (selecting suitable sensors to monitor/track stress), and designed hardware architecture, charging, initial size, validation, and development models (quantity in the hundreds) to create for the algorithm team to begin testing.
Our industrial design team validated sizing and components to lock in feature sets in accordance with battery volumes. We also identified and chose vendors for the batteries. Surfaceink invented technology for the connector and jewelry industry to create unique water-tight builds that passed signals from the inside to the outside of the ring.
Other work included: calculations for the composite structure, inventing methods for gluing/assembling devices, developing inline tooling for contract manufacturers for mass production, qualifying all vendor’s multi-builds for mass production ramps — getting yields to the correct place — and finally creating certification/qualification programs for the client to take to manufacturing. We also oversaw assembly for ramp process improvements to accelerate time for production to a viable spot. We created a unique method to manage remote builds that are normally managed on-site (but changed due to COVID-19) and worked through the supply chain.
